Drinking Water

Welcome to the Modern World

We live in a chemical stew, exposed from the womb to the grave - at home, in school, and at work - to substances that evolution didn’t prepare us for: pesticides, herbicides, flame retardants, plasticizers, radioactive elements, heavy metals, genetically modified organisms, electromagnetic fields, and the most recent addition to the list, nanoparticles.

Every day we are bombarded with man-made chemical concoctions, designed in the lab and supposed to make our lives easier and better, but at what cost? We eat them, we drink them, we wear them, we breathe them, we touch them. Many are carcinogens, or associated with other medical and mental health conditions, ranging from Alzheimer’s and behavioral disorders to psoriasis and weight-related problems. They affect every living creature, and often accumulate up the food chain, carrying their toxic burden ever upward from one-celled organisms, to fish and animals, and on to humans.

Toxic Burden is dedicated to raising awareness of environmental toxins, and body burden--or the accumulation of man-made chemicals each of us carries in our bodies. Learn what you can do to protect your and your family's health from toxic trespass; for example, you can choose to eat organic food, clean with all-natural cleaning products, or select least-toxic alternatives when shopping for products, and you will learn about these options.

The Toxic Burden Blog is updated at least four times per week (and I welcome guest bloggers if you have something to say on this topic). The Toxins and Body Burden page offers longer articles, the Living Clean page will provide suggestions for nontoxic alternatives, and the Recommended Sites will lead you to more information and organizations that are addressing these issues. Please make yourself at home, and visit often.
